louis,
Beautiful place and beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing it. You must be a very good cameraman to be able to take such pictures.
Now I am all the more fired up to take a cruise to Alaska. Dunno if I could enjoy their food much as it would be totally different from my staple diet of rice.

Hi Zawi,

Thanks for the compliments, but I am a low-level amateur who uses a point and shoot camera that fits in my pocket :).

The weather on this trip was superb for photography in Alaska.

As for the food, one can eat all one's meals on board the ship (they prepare 10,000 meals a day). The ship is never in port for more than 6 or 8 hours.

Rice is available at every lunch and dinner, and they try to cater to the wide variety of tastes of the wide range of nationalities and ethnic backgrounds among the guests.

The makeup of the cruise passengers and crew reflects the globalization that has taken hold.

Louis, you are right about the rice and if you prefer food that you are use to, you only need to let the ship know ahead of time.
The matre 'd will then come to your table each night to help plan for the next day. This is what happened when our brother-in-law needed a special diet.

hmm. either mom is standardizing her poses, or i detect a repeat :) Neat photos!

Looks like it was a fabulous trip. Think of the education your grandkids could get out of a similar trip...with you...without us. :)

So, Sue, the Maitre d' does have a role besides floating by the table some nights to remind us he's there and on the last night, to collect his gratuity :)?

Thanks for alerting me to that customer service: I would have associated it with plane flights (in days of yore when they actually served food on them), but not with a cruise.

I'll pass on your very useful tip to Zawi. Who knows, that may push him over the edge and get him to book a cruise.

Dear Anonymous,

You should have used this name with your other Comment, then I could have more gracefully declined your hint in it.

Well, Mom is still the rose she has always been, so the photo is authentic.

Hi Lise,

I have a daughter with this same name. Small world.

I don't think she'd even dream of letting her daughters cruise with us and without her, no matter how educational that would be for them, and how hard we'd try to persuade her to allow that :)

louise,
May I thank Sue for the response. God willing, one day I will be in Alaska.

Hi Louis,

What time of the year would it be best to visit Alaska? Maybe i should start saving from now :-)

Nazli, mid-May through very early September is the time to visit Alaska. That coincides with the cruise season too. A cruise (out of Seattle or Vancouver, B.C.) is probably the best way to visit Alaska, for several reasons.
