Mexico and Costa Rica

Acapulco, Mexico

Acapulco used to be the the best known and one of the few resorts on the Pacific Coast of Mexico.

It has now been joined by a host of other resorts, collectively referred to as "The Mexican Riviera". The movie "Ten" was filmed in one of those resorts, and another, Puerto Vallarta was associated with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton because of the movie "Night of the Iguana".

The cliff divers of Acapulco. Notice the splash where one has just hit the water?

Punta Arenas, Costa Rica

The beach where the ships dock is unattractive. The sand looks dirty because it is of volcanic origin. Costa Rica, along with the rest of Central America, Mexico and the west coasts of California, Oregon and Washington are the American part of the "Ring of Fire" that extends through Indonesia and the Western Pacific.

But the main attraction of this stop is not the beach but the eco-tours of the pristine Tropical rainforests nearby, with their treetop cable walks, rafting and boating on the rivers, a ride on a century old train, the mountain scenery. I don't have photos of those attractions because they required more physical energy than I was prepared to offer.

Costa Rica is justifiably famous for its efforts to maintain its rich natural beauty.
