Sunday in Seattle

The view from our front door

You might see the odd tourist wearing a T-shirt that says: "Seattle Rain Festival: January 1 through December 31". That's not much of an exaggeration. But Seattle rain  has its rewards. Just look at those lilacs that are appearing outside our front door now, or the lush green of the grass that has not been fed a single spoonful of fertilizer.

You won't find many lawns with automatic sprinklers here, unlike in Southern California where I used to live, where the grass would die without them.

The lilacs are very fragrant

From our balcony

Just across the street is a huge Nature Preserve, Discovery Park. You can glimpse it in the view from the front door.

Hello Louis
Welcome to blogsphere.
It always rains in Seattle but it is one of my favourite American cities.
I hope to read more about the city and Washington state in your blog.

Dear Mr Louis,

I have placed your blogname on my favorite folder. I am looking forward to read more of your postings under the tropical weather of Malaysia.

When you mention about the sprinklers, I remember.. I heard it never rains in California.. it pours.

The view from your front door is fantastic, the healthy need-to-be-trimmed grass and the blooming lilacs tells a lot. Facing east-west with lots of rain.

I have set up my blog and learning to tidy up my blog and I hope that I can share with you soon. Only this dog takes longer to learn new tricks.

I saw your name in many comments to Pak Idrus' postings. I prefer to call him PI.

Thank you, keep it coming.

Hello Fauziah,

Thanks for your welcome.

I do plan to write more about Seattle and the Northwest. Did you write about your impressions of Seattle in your earlier posts? I would be interested in reading your perspectives.

I notice in your Profile that one of your interests is Formula 1: my son and I flew to KL in 2006 to attend the Formula 1. Exciting.

Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for bookmarking my blog. I look forward to your feedback on my posts.

You are very perceptive: my house does indeed have an East-West orientation, and the view from the front door is towards the West. By the way, that grass has been trimmed: happened while i was writing this post in fact :)

More on California and Malaysia (my second home in many ways since the mid 1980's) in subsequent posts.

Hi Louis ... It looks like you live in a beautiful neighborhood. Your photos of the trails in the park remind me of the forest paths in the Olympic National Park. Nature's elements at their best.

Is the Discovery Park linked to the one that surrounds the Ballard Locks? You mentioned that the locks are within walking distance of your house and I recall walking through lovely landscaping in a park to get to the locks.

From your description of the landscaped grounds you walked through to get to the Ballard Lock, Rita, I would think that you are referring to the Botanical gardens right next to the locks.

My area is on the opposite shore, but separated by just a short distance from the channel. This area is called Magnolia, and Discovery Park is within Magnolia. David, since he is a veteran, is probably familiar with Fort Lawton which is actually a part of Discovery Park. In fact Discovery Park was a military base at one time.

Drive over in your new Jetta and visit us. I sent you an e-mail with our contact info.

Meanwhile, I'll visit Discovery Park in my blogs from time to time.
