On a Bicycle Built for Three

On a Bicycle Built for Three

My son, who is currently visiting Germany with his family sent me this photo of them touring the German countryside on his bicycle built for THREE. His two co-peddlars are his daughters, but I strongly suspect he is the only rider contributing any power. He’s a cycling enthusiast who thinks a 50 mile ride is recreational so he probably overlooks that.

He didn’t rent this stretched bike in Germany: he brought it with him from Seattle in their luggage: yes, in their suitcases! He had dismantled it here at his home and packed the parts in along with their clothes. I imagine the metal detectors went into overload as they scanned that luggage.

His youngest daughter (in the middle) when she was about 4 years old, had been closely observing my wife pedalling her stationary exercise bicycle for several minutes. She finally remarked:

“But Grandma, you are not going anywhere”.

Well, at least she is going somewhere on her bike, and the area looks delightful.

Louis, I live in Germany in the mid seventies and the countryside is really lovely and the summer is wonderful, so that bicycle ride must be wonderful for that gang of three provide the main rider go for the German Beer after the ride rather then before. They sell beer in a liter glass there. I love the beer garden in summer. BTW where is the other half.

Have a nice day.

Lucky you, Pak idrus, to have lived there. We have travelled there, in fact we were there in the seventies ourselves, passing through. I always wondered who that Malaysian gentleman on the next Biergarten stool was :)

Good question about the other half. Ever noticed how they have a way of disappearing when there's hard work to do:)? If my posts suddenly stop, you can guess what has happened to me for that remark :)

Louis,
Biking around on a bicycle for three is a good way of bonding among the family. It is a gd thing he is doing that.

Hi Zawi,

If it weren't for that Pacific Ocean, I am sure my son would hitch up his trailer to his vehicle and go camping with his family at Taman Negara and those other attractive sites you feature in your blog.

They are a family who love the outdoors and use every opportunity to enjoy it.
